This Wiki has been made to help the reader understand more about Marzano’s Instructional Strategy’s. Beneath you will find some of the strategies and a brief definition of what will be found in this Wiki.

Non-linguistic Representation

The two main ways our brain process information is linguistic & non-linguistic. Linguistic is the words we hear in lectures and non-linguistic are the images we see or kinesthetic actions. “The more student use both systems of representing knowledge, the better they are able to think about and recall what they have learned” (Marzano, Pickering, & Pollock).

Cooperative Learning is a method of organizing students into groups to complete problems, projects, or assignments while working together. This method is intended to improve communication and collaboration skills as students learn with and from each other. Teachers work as guides or facilitators while groups cooperate to complete assigned tasks.

Practice is when you take something that has been newly learned and apply it repeatedly. Practice is meant to support learning and this where homework comes into play. Homework is a tool used to extend learning outside of the classroom. It is meant to be intentional and meet specific goals or outcomes. These two topics work hand-in-hand to meet the ultimate goal, which is to get students as close to the mastery level as possible.

Summarizing and Note Taking promote greater comprehension by asking students to choose information that is important in the material and put it into their own words. The students will have to remove information, add information, and paraphrase the material in order to figure out what is important in the material covered.

Testing Hypothesis 2.pngGenerating & Testing A Hypothesis

Generating & Testing A Hypothesis helps students improve their critical thinking skills by taking a look at all relevant information, and use them to interpret & predict what the result of the experiment or the resolution of a novel will be. Though like any other learning strategy, students should always check the information and notes they have on hand to make sure that their hypothesis is correct and that it can't be proven false. Also, this strategy would best used in groups of 2 or more, so that students can work with others who have similar questions or experiments come to a shared conclusion.
